An exact tool allocation approach for CNC machines
نویسنده
چکیده
An exact approach is developed to determine the optimum machining conditions and tool allocation decisions simultaneously to minimize the total production cost on a CNC turning machine. There are multiple machining operations and we consider a set of alternative cutting tool types for each operation. The existing tool management approaches at the system level fail to relate the tooling issues to the machining conditions, and ignore the tool availability and tool wear restrictions. Consequently, we not only improve the overall solution by exploiting the interactions between these two decision making problems, but also prevent any unfeasibility that might occur for the tool allocation problem due to tool contention among the operations for a limited number of tool types by considering the machining operation, tool availability and tool life limitations. The computational results indicated that the ave rage computation time to find an optimum solution was 1.11 s, whereas the maximum time was 11.45 s, for a set of randomly generated problems.

An Exact Representation of Effective Cutting Shapes of 5-axis CNC Machining Using Rational Bezier and B-spline Tool Motions
Presented in this paper is a new approach to 5-axis CNC tool path generation for sculptured surface machining with a flat-end cutter. Rational Bézier and B-spline motions are used to plan cutter motions so that an exact representation of the effective cutting shape can be obtained. The exact representation leads to an accurate computation of the scallop curve generated by two adjacent tool path...
متن کاملOptimal allocation and processing time decisions on non-identical parallel CNC machines: epsilon-constraint approach
When the processing times of jobs are controllable, selected processing times affect both the manufacturing cost and the scheduling performance. A well known example for such a case that this paper specifically deals with is the turning operation on a CNC machine. Manufacturing cost of a turning operation is a nonlinear convex function of its processing time. In this paper, we deal with making ...
متن کاملA real-time CNC interpolator algorithm for trimming and filling planar offset curves
Tool paths for CNC machines must be offset from the desired part shape, in order to compensate for the tool radius. To avoid gouging the part geometry and to ensure continuous paths, the offset construction employs trimming and filling operations at tangent discontinuities and regions of high concave curvature on the part shape. Typically, offset paths are constructed offline in a CAM system— t...
متن کاملAn Educational Scheme for a CNC Drilling Machine
Computer numerical control (CNC) involves machines controlled by electronic systems designed to accept numerical data and other instructions, usually in a coded form. CNC machines are more productive than conventional equipment and consequently produce parts at less cost and higher accuracy even when the higher investment is considered. This article proposes an educational scheme for designing ...
